DESIGNING OF EBB & LACE
SOFT RHYTHM. FEMININE FLOW.
An Exploration of Movement Shaped by Retreat.
Ebb & Lace was designed in response to withdrawal rather than arrival. Within the Tidal Grace Collection, this piece reflects the moment when energy turns inward — when motion slows, when the tide recedes, and when softness takes on a different kind of presence. Unlike the openness of Seafoam Hour or the composure of Stillwater, Ebb & Lace leans into femininity as rhythm, not decoration.
This design does not seek attention. It moves quietly, deliberately, and with intention.
DESIGN INTENTION
The silhouette was developed to follow the body rather than frame it. Gentle lines, flowing layers, and softened edges create movement that feels organic rather than directed. The ruffle detailing was placed to echo natural motion — responding to walking, turning, and pause — instead of shaping or correcting the form.
Ebb & Lace is not structured to hold the body in place. It is designed to move with it, allowing femininity to appear through motion rather than definition.
The result is a silhouette that feels fluid, expressive, and quietly confident.
FROM SWIM TO RESORT
Ebb & Lace was created for moments of unforced elegance.
This piece transitions naturally:
- from water to shoreline,
- from afternoon warmth to early evening air,
- from swim into relaxed resort dressing.
As swim, it feels soft and unobtrusive. Worn beyond the water, it becomes an easy, feminine layer — suited to sunset walks, coastal dinners, and settings where movement matters more than structure.
There is no need for adjustment. The design remains itself.
THE COLOR STORY
The palette for Ebb & Lace draws from muted coastal hues — tones that feel softened by time and water rather than brightness. These colors were selected to enhance the fluidity of the design, allowing the silhouette and movement to remain the focus.
Rather than contrast, the palette reinforces continuity, echoing the idea of retreat and return that defines the piece.
THE DESIGN PROCESS
Ebb & Lace was developed during my studies at the Fashion Institute of Florida as part of an exploration into how softness functions in design. Through pattern refinement and fabric behavior studies, this piece became an exercise in restraint — not through control, but through letting go.
By allowing movement to lead rather than structure, the design reflects an understanding that femininity does not require emphasis to be present. It simply needs space.
